Filling the Gaps

We will begin a lot of updates on the 2019 recruiting season. I'm going to begin with the obvious which is the holes on this team that need help.

As I've said before, the way to fix those holes is through recruiting.

Already Mario Cristobal hosted an elite 5-Star defensive tackle in Faatui Tuitele on campus this weekend. You can never have too much beef on the offensive and defensive lines.

Here's a quick look at some of those holes and just how important it will be to fill them this year.

Find the Power Back

There is no shortage of running backs on the roster for Mario Cristobal. So there are a lot worse problems for the Ducks to have.

But I don't see a pounding 230-pound option that I know Cristobal covets.

I'm not writing off CJ Verdell, Darrian Felix or any of the other backs. I'm just saying Cristobal will run the ball and needs his bellcow.

Corner the Market

This was an area that Oregon missed out on in the 2018 class. Donte Williams came in late and tried to get Oregon in the game with several but just couldn't land anyone.

I don't see that as a problem this year for Williams. He'll be able to hit the ground running and keep Oregon in the game for some elite talent out of Southern California.

Finding corners with length will be the top priority.

Heir to Herbert

Tyler Shough is a big get for Oregon. It's also even bigger he's already on campus with the early enrollees.

But Shough alone is not enough for depth on this team.

Oregon not only needs to find a quarterback, they need to get him locked in early which will help with recruiting the rest of the class.

Don't Get Caught...

Empty-handed at receiver in this class. The bigger the receiver the better.

Jalen Hall is a quality get for Oregon. Crocker and Tucker could be good additions too.

But missing on Devon Williams, Michael Ezeike and Miles Battle hurt. The fact that all three of them are 6-foot-4 plus is exactly what Oregon needs to find in this class. Good news, there's several in the Los Angeles area. Now go get one, or two, or three.

Keep It Tight

Spencer Webb is going to be a tremendous addition for Oregon at tight end. But they still need more depth and that will be the key for this class.

Once again, like a bigger back, Cristobal would like to utilize the tight end position in his offense both in the passing game and as a blocker.

Go Big or Go Home

Defensive line depth is of the utmost importance. You don't win national championships without it.

While Oregon is experiencing its best defensive line depth in years, there is always room to keep adding. I have a feeling this will be a major emphasis as witnessed by Cristobal hosting Tuitele on campus already.

I'm not saying Oregon won't sign any offensive lineman, safeties or linebackers in this class. They will. But at the current moment, these positions take a higher priority over those to get filled.
