PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The two-week run of 2018 preseason award watch lists opened on Monday morning, as Oregon junior quarterback Justin Herbert landed on the 82nd annual Maxwell Award list. The Maxwell Award has been presented to America’s College Player of the Year since 1937.

The Maxwell Award recognition adds to the growing list of preseason awards for Herbert, who has made 15 starts over his first two seasons. In 2017, Herbert led the Ducks to a 6-2 record in the eight games he started, leading an offense that averaged 49.1 points and 516.5 yards when he behind center.

Herbert is the fastest player in program history to reach 3,000 career passing yards (13 games), edging out former Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota. Through his two seasons, the Eugene native has 34 touchdowns and just nine interceptions to go along with a completion percentage of .650 and 3,919 yards passing.

41.2 – Oregon is averaging 41.2 points per game over Herbert’s 15 career starts in 2016 and 2017. Herbert is the only current FBS quarterback to lead his team to over 40 points per game in 10 or more career starts.
