PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Oregon defensive standouts junior linebacker Troy Dye and senior defensive end Jalen Jelks were both named to the 24th annual Chuck Bednarik Watch List on Monday morning. The Chuck Bednarik Award has been presented to the College Defensive Player of the Year since 1995.

Oregon is one of 23 programs with multiple players on the watch list, including one of five Pac-12 teams. Dye and Jelks were a major part of the Oregon defense going from No. 126 nationally in total defense in 2016 to No. 46 in 2017.

A preseason All-America choice by Athlon Sports (first team) and Phil Steele (second team) this offseason, Dye has led Oregon in tackles each of the past two seasons. In fact, Dye is one of five Power 5 players to lead his team in tackles in 2016 and 2017.

Dye finished fourth in the Pac-12 in tackles in 2017 with 107, leading Oregon in stops eight times. The Norco, Caif., product finished his sophomore season as one of three FBS players with at least 100 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, four sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Jelks’ breakout junior season featured team-highs of 15.0 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks, figures that ranked third and tied for 10th in the Pac-12, respectively. Highlighted by a three-sack performance at Arizona State, Jelks accumulated 14.0 of his tackles for loss and all 6.5 sacks in Pac-12 action. He finished third on the team and second among conference defensive lineman with 59 tackles.
