Herbert Added to Watch List

July 17, 2018

Via Oregon Communications:

FORT WORTH, Texas – Oregon junior quarterback Justin Herbert found himself on another national award watch list on Tuesday morning when he was named to the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award Watch List.

One of 26 quarterbacks honored, the Davey O’Brien Award nod comes on the heels of Herbert being named to the Maxwell Award Watch List on Monday.

Herbert is coming off a sophomore campaign in 2017, in which he led Oregon to a 6-2 record and 49.1 points per game over his eight starts. Despite playing in just eight games, Herbert was one of three Pac-12 quarterbacks to throw for 15 touchdowns and rush for five more while finishing in a tie for the conference lead with seven completions of 50-plus yards.

The 6-foot-6 Eugene, Ore., native threw for 1,983 yards in 2017, while completing 67.5 percent (139-206) of his passes, a mark that would have ranked third nationally if he met the minimum number of games played.

Herbert is the fastest player in program history to reach 3,000 career passing yards (13 games), edging out former Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota. Through his two seasons, the Eugene native has 34 touchdowns and just nine interceptions to go along with a completion percentage of .650 and 3,919 yards passing.

139 – Herbert has thrown 139 consecutive passes without an interception in Pac-12 road games entering his junior season. In six career Pac-12 road games, Herbert has 14 touchdown passes and just one interception.
