Cristobal Recaps Day 1

March 9, 2019

On Saturday Oregon opened up Spring practice which will commence on April 20 with the Spring game.

Some of the big news of the day was the move of Daewood Davis to cornerback.

There were some new faces and new numbers on the team.

Mario Cristobal spent about 15 minutes talking to media about his first practice of the Spring. Below are some key quotes from coach Cristobal along with the full video posted below.

“Probably one of the biggest things we have been emphasizing on is hitting the reset button. It was a very positive first day. These guys are antsy and want to put pads on right away.”

On Year 2 vs Year 1:

“It sure felt different out there. Closing on the ball. Creating separation. Being able to maintain balance and body control. Be able to practice fast, not always having guys on the ground. Very pleased with the way a lot of the bodies have changed.”

On the incoming freshmen:

“I thought it was noticeable today. Josh Delgado had a couple of nice catches today. I do want to mention Kayvon Thibodeaux. I thought Dru Mathis had a good day. Ge’mon Eaford looked good. Cale has a mild foot injury so we held him out.”

On the Veteran OL Group:

“You spend sometimes an entire career trying to get to this moment. They know what each other is thinking. They have great habits. One of the best parts about these guys is they train the younger guys.”

On Daewood Davis Moving to CB:

“He’s an explosive guy. He’s played defense before. So we gave it a shot. He’s doing a really good job so far.”

Keys to Spring:

“You have to establish a really strong work ethic. It has to improve, it can’t stay the same. Communication has to be at a premium.”
