Practice No. 3 Recap

March 13, 2019

The third spring football practice of the 2019-20 season kicked off early Wednesday morning like it does every practice with Aaron Feld getting the players pumped. And I think he did something I previously thought was impossible -- he got louder.

I’m talking about Aaron Feld in my intro because today the media got the full roster with updated weights and there were some changes.

The most notable off-season transformation comes from D.J. Johnson, who last year was listed at 255 pounds and is now 270 pounds, a 15-pound difference. It was something I expected because of how big he looked in the first practice, and today confirmed it, Johnson put on some serious muscle over the off-season.

Other notable changes include Justin Johnson, who’s down to 340 from 350, Malasala Aumavae-Laulu who is listed at 332 instead of 345 (according to Rivals), and CJ Verdell who seems to have put on a little bit of muscle after being weighed at 209, up from 201.

From what I have seen at the practices so far, everybody is looking and feeling good. Oregon’s strength and conditioning team got a lot of praise last year, rightly so, and it’s not hard to see why.

Bryan Addison was in a red no-contact jersey today and CJ Verdell was a no-go for today’s practice.

At practice Feld really brings the energy, more than I have ever seen from any other coach -- and it’s not even close. The whole team feeds off of it.
