Spring Review: Offensive Line

No team under Mario Cristobal’s watch will be short on offensive line talent. That’s how I feel about it anyways. At Alabama the Tide were loaded with linemen and so far Oregon has had no shortage of dudes on the line.

While this current team is made up of a lot of guys Steve Greatwood recruited, it already has some of Cristobal’s fingerprints all over it with Dallas Warmack transferring in and Penei Sewell anchoring the left tackle spot.

This is easily one of he most talented groups on this roster and nationally. Justin Herbert has one of the best lines in the country standing in front of him. If they can improve in the run game, or at least be more consistent, this offense could explode.

This Spring Oregon was without Calvin Throckmorton. Which meant that Brady Aiello saw more snaps with the first team. Big JUCO signee Malaesala Aumavae is already on campus working the the 2’s for the most part. His arrival isn’t necessary to impact the starting group but if injuries occur, which they have for Oregon, he could be a great interior depth boost.

Steven Jones was also dinged up for most of the Spring and wasn’t able to participate leading up to the Spring game. He saw quality time last year as a starter and he could make an impact this season as well. I doubt he starts, but I would imagine he’ll see a lot of meaningful snaps.

To boot, Jonah Tauanu’u hasn’t even arrived on campus yet. The great news for him is he won’t be counted on to start from day one. Oregon also was able to redshirt Chris Randazzo and Justin Johnson last season. Both are big-bodied guys that will be counted on after this season when Oregon will see a big group graduate.

Alex Forsyth and Dawson Jaramillo have also had a couple years of seasoning. Both seem to have the ability to play a number of positions including center for Forsyth.

There are a lot of pieces to this group that is not only talented, but deep.
