A special Saturday edition of the Opening regiona is about to get underway. In Oakland a number of high-profile recruits will take to the field at El Cerrito (Calif.) high school hoping to earn an invitation to the Opening Finals in July in Dallas.

Oregon now has three commits in the event with the addition of quarterback Jay Butterfield Friday afternoon. He will be joined by wide reciever Kris Hutson and tight end Seth Figgins.

****Oakland Opening Preview - 5-Stars, commits & more****

The event gets under way around 10 AM with the linemen however the skill guys will get going around noon.

You can follow along for live updates below and here are a few of the things I’ll be looking out for during the day.

1. Can’t wait to see Jay Butterfield live in person. This event doesn’t really cater to dual-threat quarterbacks so Butterfield should thrive. More importantly, who is he throwing to? I’m sure he’ll make his way to getting some reps with Hutson and Figgins but will he work on uncommitted targets like Jalen McMillan and DJ Rogers among others?

2. Couple of defensive linemen immediately jump out from the list. Van Fillinger and Jamar Sekona. I’m excited to talk to both (Hopefully) but more excited to watch them in action. Specifically watching them against Faaope Laloulu who’s making the trip up from Hawaii. Also an Oregon target.

3. Really excited to see 5-Star Kelee Ringo and more importantly talk with him in person. I want to believe Oregon made up some ground with his recent visit but Texas is certailny commanding a lot of his attention currently. Best part yet is he’ll have a chance to go up against 5-Star WR Jalen McMillan at this event, should they chose to go mano y mano.

4. At linebacker I know Jordan Botelho is a dude, but I want to see Carson Breuner go to work as well. He’s a guy the Oregon staff has put some time into recruiting and clearly they like his upside. I’m anxious to see what it is that jumps out about him and see for myself. That said, this event isn’t specifically catered to linebackers in the least.

5. Not gonna lie, excited to see DJ Uiagelelei as well. I know he committed to Clemson but I still am excited to see him in action as well as 5-Star RB Kendall Milton and 4-Star Sam Adams. I’m also excited to see Gee Scott Jr, the Ohio State commit. It’s a long way until signing day, perhaps Oregon can wiggle in there, perhaps not. Still, this is probably the most talented group I’ve ever seen at this event.
