Oregon Football Recruiting

June 12, 2019

Jim Mastro has found his man. The Ducks have scoured the country for a running back and found the guy they feel can lead this team in the future.

St. Joseph (Miss.) star Trey Benson‍ might not be the well-known five star name in recruiting circles, but he’s the guy Jim Mastro saw and wanted. Following a strong performance at an Opening regional, Ryan Bartow (director of high school relations) watched more film and sent him directly to Mastro who knew he’d found ‘a dude.’

The 6-foot, 209-pounder committed to Oregon following his official visit which began late Monday night and finished Thursday morning. Benson currently has scholarship offers from Louisville, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, FSU, Penn State and others but chose the Ducks.

Oregon will likely only take a single back in this class with a full stable of young talent. Jim Mastro has already landed an early commitment from class of 2021 back Seven McGee and class of 2022 back Jaydyn Ott.

At 6-foot, 209-pounds, Benson posted some freakish numbers including a 4.4 40-yard dash and 35 inch vertical.

At the time of my prediction on Trey Benson to Oregon (April 2), all five picks on 247Sports had him pegged to Mississippi State.

In case you don’t remember our eval of Benson from late March, you really ought to read it again. This kid has all of the tools to be a special talent in the Pac-12 conference at Oregon.
