Johnson Primed for Bigger Role

August 8, 2019

One of the veterans vying for playing time this season is receiver Johnny Johnson III. Last year he had an up and down season but also had some big plays for the Ducks.

With Brenden Schooler currently injured, there is an opening at the starting spot. So far through two practices, Johnson has seen his role elevated.

He talked about that and the competition in the receiver room this Fall.

On the WR Group:

“It’s a good competition. A lot of the younger guys are hungry. Dudes are ready to work. It’s always a competition.”

On the Loss of Schooler:

“He’s a great leader, he’s a great offensive player and special teams player. It’s a sad loss for us but we gotta step it up. He’s always positive, always shows up to work.”

On the Young WR’s:

“There’s some really good players. They gotta learn the playbook a little better. But they’re working.”

On Mykael Wright:

“He’s a very good corner for his age. He’s a smart corner, he’s quick, he’s a good athlete.”

On Drops Last Season:

“I think last season it was a little bit too lax. As a whole group we took that as motivation to catch on jugs, with Herbert, with Tyler. We don’t think about this year.”

On Coach Bouknight:

“He coaches us hard. He’s a hard coach, he doesn’t let us do anything wrong.”
