Bouknight Talks WR Group

August 9, 2019

Oregon’s receiver group is easily the most talked about group this Fall. This group struggled with catches last season but fans are hoping that will change this season.

Tasked with that turn around is Jovon Bouknight. He’s already facing some adversity with the loss of returning starter Brenden Schooler.

He talked about that loss and the rest of this group. You can read the highlights or watch the video below.

On Loss of Brenden Schooler:

“Any time you lose a guy like Brenden Schooler, he’s obviously a huge part of our team. He’s a leader in my group, he brings a tremendous amount of  value on special teams, it’s monumental. Just losing him and his presence it obviously hurts but that’s part of the game. We just have to pick up the slack and the next guy has to be ready to roll.”

On Competition:

“Right now we’re trying to work out the kinks. We’re trying to let guys compete and see who’s gonna rise to the top. Guys are set at a position right now but when we start getting into game week we’re going to move guys around. Right now we’re just trying to get guys to develop. Another young guy like Bryan Addison is stepping up and making some plays. But that board can shuffle.”

On Moving Guys Around:

“The things that go on in our war room with the packages and the planning, we do all that. We can have a length package or a speed package. But we’re just trying to develop chemistry and continuity right now. It’s going to be really big for Herbert too. The biggest thing is learning the concepts. That way you can move around.”

On Saturday’s Scrimmage:

“I’m looking for consistency. Assignment. Alignment. Effort. Obviously catching the ball. I just want to see guys making plays and giving max effort.”

On Freshmen:

“Young guys are coming along. Lance has the injury, he’s been out a little bit. They’re being put to the test. They’re progressing. We’ll see once we get into those live situations.”

On Recruiting:

“If we could get one more valuable piece I think we’d be in pretty good shape. They can be all over. I like having versatility in the receiver group. There is no particular what he looks like. We want explosive guys that can make plays in space.”
