Mastro Talks RB's, Youngsters

August 9, 2019

The Ducks return both key contributors from last year at running back in CJ Verdell and Travis Dye. They also return a healthy Darrian Felix who is poised to make some noise of his own.

That doesn’t even count Cyrus Habibi-Likio who contributed near the goal-line last season.

Now Oregon brings in Jayvaun Wilson and Sean Dollars to the mix. Coach Mastro talked about his group and where things stand ahead of Saturday’s scrimmage.

On Darrian Felix:

“Darrian’s doing very well. If he can just stay healthy, which knock on wood he has, he’s very talented. He’s kind of behind the 8 ball because he missed last year. He’s faster, he’s a little bit of both those guys (Verdell & Dye) put together.”

How Many Backs Will Play:

“No you won’t do that. You get 2 and a half ready. The best 2 and a half will play.”

On Sean Dollars:

“Sean’s a really good player. He can do it all. He’s everything we thought he was.”

On Ball Security:

“We’ve had 1 ball on the ground the whole camp. They’re protecting the ball well.”

On Habibi-Likio

“He’s just taken his game to a whole new level. He’s taken his game to being an every down back for us.”

On Jayvaun Wilson:

“He’s a big kid, he’s a big back. He’s already gained 11 pounds since he showed up. He’s naturally strong. He’s gonna be the big back you want.”

On Saturday’s Scrimmage:

“We’ll get the young guys probably a little more reps. CJ and Travis and Cyrus will just kind of spot them. We just want to be fundamentally sound. Run the right route, be in the right spot.”

On the Offense:

“Last year we were just trying to figure it out. We’re definitely way ahead of the game. Just offensively we can put more in. Do more with our offense.”
