Practice Recap: 8.14

August 14, 2019

Oregon defensive tackle Gary Baker and defensive back Kahlef Hailassie were full participants in today’s practice, after sitting out practice earlier this week. Tight end Cam McCormick was limited today but is expected to be back later this week. Tight end Jake Breeland was also held out today. Wide receiver Lance Wilhoite and offensive tackle George Moore also remained limited today.

Today’s practice was focused on technique. The quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends were working on some end zone throws and catches. The running back group was working on footwork and pass blocking skills. The defensive line unit was also working on footwork and technique, while some of the linebackers were working on block shedding and footwork technique.

During a drill involving the quarterbacks and wide receivers where the wide receiver had a defensive back playing loose coverage on him, there wasn’t one single drop by anyone where they had to turn to the ball to catch it in the corner of the end zone. It was a nicely executed drill by the wide receivers, with all the quarterbacks making high level throws.

Overall, there was a lot of juice and energy in today’s practice, and once each position broke off to their own unit drills, each unit was practicing hard and really getting after it. I felt like it was the best practice I personally had been to so far, and you can see players getting better at each drill as they participated in their 11th team practice this fall.
