Mario Cristobal Press Conference 9.9

Mario Cristobal spoke with the media on Monday in his typical press conference at the HDC.

One of the big announcements was the decision by kicker Adam Stack to transfer from the program. Oregon has had a tough kicker battle to date but now it will fall on Camden Lewis the rest of the season.

Additionally he talked about the injuries. It would appear Juwan Johnson and Cam McCormick are 50/50 for this weekend for Montana. Although Mycah Pittman is trying to get back as soon as possible, his two week timetable (he tweeted) might be a little on the aggressive side according to Cristobal.

Below are the notes from his conference, we will add video once its posted.

Opening Statement:

“Saw a lot of guys play with room to improve. But we still haven’t seen our best football yet.”

On Injuries:

“Juwan we think is 50-50, still coming around. It’s a soft tissue thing. We’re coming towards this thing being a go. Cam is still day to day. Andrew Johnson did not play but he’s back. We hope to have Mycah back with us in a few weeks practicing.”

On Stack Transfer:

“Adam Stack will transfer from the program. To find a better opportunity for himself somewhere else.”

On Montana’s Offense:

“Their QB is really a special player. He’s a runner, he’s a thrower. He’s the heart and soul of their team. He’s complimented by some really good receivers. Very explosive at the slot. They do a good job of mixing things up from a personnel standpoint. They do a lot of shifts and motions. Their offensive line plays with toughness. Their tight ends don’t get enough credit. They use two and three tight ends at a time.”

On Montana’s Defense:

“It’s a very different challenge than we’ve seen. They’re in a three down front probably close to 70-percent of the time. It all starts with No. 33, just a hardnosed, tough, physical fast defensive player. They communicate extremely well. Just a very different scheme than what we’ve faced.”

On First Down Success:

“Our guys enjoy playing with tempo. To play with tempo you have to get the sticks moving. Third down we have to get better.”

On Dru Mathis: (DNP)

“Dru’s coming along. I think Dru’s really close. He’s going to be a really good player for us this season. Tucker we felt the other guys deserved to play more and they did. It’s that simple.”

On Darrian Felix Pushing Starters:

“He’s part of it now. He’s had some health issues, just some nicks and stuff. Now he feels healthy so now he’s 100-percent in that mix.”

On Improved Tackling:

“We work tackling drills on a daily basis. We’ve really emphasized rugby-style tackling as well. It’s a point of emphasis and it’s good to see we’re getting good results.”
