Oregon QB Tyler Shough Recaps Big Debut

September 10, 2019

On Saturday Oregon’s backup quarterback Tyler Shough got extended time in live action. And the redshirt freshman did not disappoint with an impressive showing.

Shough entered the game in the third quarter and there was almost no drop off from the offense. In his time he went 8 for 9 with 92 yards and 2 touchdowns through the air. He also added in 2 carries for 11 yards on the ground.

QB2 spoke with media Tuesday following Oregon’s practice. Below are some of the highlights followed by the video from GoDucks.com.

On Playing:

“It was a good feeling. It was a good one to start it off on. The quick screen to the perimeter. It was awesome to get in there with the 1’s and develop some chemistry. Sharing that moment with them and the coaches and getting the W.”

On his Hard Work:

“It’s nice to see it come to fruition. A lot of hours indoors and out on the field. It’s good to see it all come together.”

On OL Unit 2:

“They’re learning from a great group. I see no drop off in work ethic. They’re a great group of guys.”

On Watching Justin Herbert:

“I try and match what he does. Our mindset is a little different but we try to stay respectfully to our own ways.”

On Getting Hit:

“It feels good to get hit. To get the nerves woken up.”

On Running w/ the Ball:

“I can get that I’m sneaky fast. It’s nice to get into some of those scenarios.”

On Team’s Improvements:

“Just to be consistent. We had some mistakes in that game. Just keep that consistency and have no drop off.”

On Being a Backup:

“Hardest part for a backup is trying to stay warm. I get to call some of the plays in so I’m mentally locked in so that helps.”
