Mario Cristobal and Andy Avalos Talk Stanford

September 19, 2019

On Wednesday Mario Cristobal and his DC and several players met with media following practice. The focus is definitely all on Stanford with the Ducks getting ready to head to Palo Alto for a big game on Saturday.

Below are a few of the top responses from the two coaches. The videos are also attached for you to view the full interview.

Mario Cristobal

On Injuries:

“Cyrus is still day to day. Juwan is day to day. We’ve seen progress on both. Jake will be evaluated today and early tomorrow. And Thomas Graham has been full-go since Tuesday. Bryson has been full-go all week. Austin is day to day.”

On Calvin Throckmorton (Playing center):

“If you watch Throck over the years and how he has graded out at each position, it’s almost identical at each position. I have not seen a guy that can handle all three positions like he can. It’s really, really specia. Should that be the case in where he plays we have complete trust in Brady Aiello, Steven Jones, as well as Alex Forsyth.”

On KJ Costello:

“That guys going to play a long time. Big, strong, great pocket awareness. That guys really hard to stop.”

On Stanford:

“They’ve got explosive players, they’re long, they’re athletic, they’re very well coached, they’re big. They execute at a high level and we have to be at our best.”

Andy Avalos

On the Defense:

“In so many different areas we’re growing. Particularly in the run game. The consistency to grow is the challenge.”

On Improving Each Week:

“We spend a lot of time talking about it and we make it very difficult in practice.”

On Stanford’s Offense:

“The passing attack with the route concepts and they have the length at tight end. They have length on the outside and KJ knows how to run it.”
