On Monday Mario Cristobal had his customary media conference at the HDC. He updated the media with injuries to Gus Cumberlander and CJ Verdell.

He also talked about the success in the run game and moving up practice one day this week with a Friday game for Oregon.

The big news was the loss of Gus Cumberlander for the season. It would appear however CJ Verdell is most likely a go for this Friday night against Colorado.

Here is the highlights with video posted below.

Opening Statement:

“We played hard. We played tough. Certainly some progress from the younger guys. The receivers it was good to have them in there.”

Injuries:

“Gus’s injury is significant. He’ll miss the season. CJ (Verdell) sprained his ankle but he looked pretty good today. He looked a lot better than I expected. Feel good about him for Saturday.”

On Friday Game Prep:

“We just moved up the week. Our players understand it. Saturday this week will be their day off.  They did a really good job coming off a physical game against a physical team.”

On the Run Game:

“We let them play. As the game goes on and on you start to get more chunk plays in the run game. We saw a lot of progress and we expect to build on that.”

On Preparing for Colorado’s Offense:

“You have to prepare for all of them. They are explosive, they have explosive guys that can stretch the field. Their offensive line is excellent. Their backs are big, physical guys. You’ve got a QB that has ton of experience. He’s complimented with really good players and a really good scheme. They pound the ball. They’re really fast, they run by teams. They mix up their tempos. They’re hard to defend.”

On Jevon Holland:

“I’d say he’s more than solid, he’s an exceptional player, an exceptional leader. He commands the respect of the locker room. He commands the respect of our opponents too. He’s a real deal competitor and human being.”

On Colorado/Mel Tucker:

“When you watch his team play it’s his personality. He’s a smart guy. They’re multiple on defense, they disguise their coverage really well. They make a ton of explosive plays on offense. Their losses have been real close, real tough ones.”

On 4th Down numbers/Kicking Game:

“The team has a lot of confidence in Cam. He works hard. There’s no hestitation for us to go for it on 4th down.”

On Darrian Felix:

“He was nicked up a little bit. Not too bad. He looked great today. Cyrus has played well, has practiced well. He gives us a different look. We feel confident in all of those guys.”

JJ Tucker:

“JJ will not be part of our team.”
