Monday Mario Cristobal Press Conference

November 11, 2019

It's been a long week for Oregon football fans. With no Oregon game this Saturday and not a ton of great games to watch, I hope you got your honey-do list handled.

Mario Cristobal and his team continued to prepare with some big practices but also some time to hit the road recruiting.

Oregon appears relatively healthy overall to host a reeling Arizona squad. The Wildcats are 4-5 overall and 2-4 in the Pac-12 conference.

Meanwhile the Ducks are up to No. 6 in the AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches poll, hoping to remain there in the playoff rankings due out Tuesday evening.

Here are the highlights from Cristobal’s press conference Monday afternoon.

On Both Arizona’s QB’s:

“They’re both different. They’re both really good players. We understand the different threats they pose to our defense. They both run what their head coach wants them to run. They know their offense really well.”

On Mykael Wright at Special Teams:

“It just showed up every single day. There’s a lot of things that stand out. One of the things that pops is his instincts. When he’s had the ball in his hands in practice he just has a natural feel. Without question he’s an electrifying player back there.”

On Brady Breeze’s Emergence:

“He cares. He always wanted to be in a situation where he can play in Autzen stadium. He’s committed to it. All of those guys have done a really good job tightening up those rules in the backend. Really looking forward to watching him play this weekend.”

On Staying Sharp During the Bye Week:

“One thing for sure during the bye week, you can get better, but you can get worse. You really incorporate the amount of good on good drills in the bye week. We’re confident in what we did this past week was a good investment into our football team.”

On Defense vs Arizona:

“We’re worlds different than what we were doing last year. You can’t allow them to get their chunk plays and you can’t allow them to get their tempo. When they get their tempo, they’re hard to stop.”

On Watching Football During the Bye:

“I watch every game possible. I love high school football. Got in early did the work on Arizona and scheduling. But I wanted to get back in time to watch game after game Saturday. I watch a ton of football and some great football being played out there.”

On Recruiting Help from 8-Game Win Streak:

“It does a bunch. We don’t really talk much about accomplishments. What’s happening is the messages and the blueprint we have preached to the guys we are recruiting is validated. It was a great week out. The Oregon brand is out there and it’s out there strong.”
