Predictions: Oregon Football vs Arizona

November 14, 2019

It’s been a long couple of weeks. Fortunately a strong USC win carried us through most of last week but it’s been a bit of a stretch to get to this point. But it is Thirsty Thursday and tomorrow is Friday which means Saturday is a day of tailgaiting in Eugene followed by a nightcap in Autzen stadium.

Hopefully you read the Juice earlier today so you know who’s coming to town. Not only will Oregon put on a show for its fans, they hope to put on a show for at least five official visitors. It could be a big weekend for Oregon but before we get to that, here’s how the staff and myself see this one playing out.

Oregon rolls into this game after a bye week and even though they won't say it, they surely have an eye for revenge for what Arizona did to them last year. Arizona has two quarterbacks that play, and as the saying goes if you have 2 quarterbacks you don't have a quarterback. The Oregon defense will be able to slow down the Arizona offense, and the Ducks offensive line will be able to dominate the smaller Arizona defensive line all night.

The Ducks come off the bye week 27-point favorites at home versus the 4-5 Arizona Wildcats. Oregon's offense should come out rolling against a Cat D that surrenders 481 yards per game. I look for Juwan Johnson to pick up where he left off and have a big game as Oregon rolls. While not covering the spread, Ducks get the W.

Oregon comes off a bye week to face an Arizona team that has underwhelmed this year. Oregon is on the outside looking in on the playoff with their destiny in their own hands. Win and presumably they are in. It starts Saturday night in Autzen. I think there will be early struggles to get going but Oregon will be able to run and throw against a bleak Wildcats defense and the Oregon defense is able to control the line of scrimmage and assert their dominance against an offense that gashed them last season. Oregon wins big 48-7 and marches closer to the top 4.

Unlike last year’s game in Tucson, Oregon starts fast and doesn’t look back in this one.  The Ducks’ offense continues to click nearly topping the 50-point mark.  The defense contains Arizona and Oregon cruises in the second half winning comfortably, with Herbert resting most of the 4th quarter to prepare for next week’s showdown in Tempe.

Oregon is coming off a bye week and a huge road win over USC. Arizona is struggling to create offense with Kahlil Tate and could turn over the reins to freshman QB Grant Gunnell. Arizona ambushed the Ducks last year in Tucson. The 2019 Oregon team will need to stay locked in and not be looking ahead to its last road game against ASU.

If you heard me on the podcast, you know what I’m all about. I already said Oregon would beat Arizona by 24 or more points. I’m not changing that prediction 24 hours later. I think Oregon rolls big and puts up an offensive performance of the year. The Ducks have a lot riding on this one and the rest of their regular season games. Mario Cristobal knows this, the team knows this, it’s going down Saturday night.
