Oregon MBB Preview & Gamer vs California

March 5, 2020

Oregon hosts California at 8 p.m. Thursday. The game will be on ESPN2.

Oregon is 22-7 overall, 11-5 in conference play. The Ducks are on a two-game winning streak and have yet to lose at home in 15 games.

They’re looking to keep that streak alive against the Golden Bears, whom they beat on January 30 in Berkeley by a score of 77-72.

California is 13-16 overall, 7-9 in conference. The Bears also are on a two-game winning streak, but they have not fared well on the road, posting just a 1-8 record.

The positive for the Golden Bears is they were pegged preseason to finish at the bottom of the conference, yet they’re eighth in the Pac-12 standings. While that may not sound that impressive, winning seven conference games is a huge improvement.

The last time these teams faced off, Chris Duarte and Will Richardson combined for 34 points. This time, Oregon will be without Duarte, who is out for the weekend and the Pac-12 tournament after have surgery. And Richardson is a game-time decision after hurting his ankle against the Beavers.

Oregon welcomed N’Faly Dante into the mix last week, but he was very limited, logging only 5 minutes. With all the injuries, Oregon could be down to eight available scholarship players.

I would guess that if Richardson is unavailable for the game, someone like Addison Patterson or C.J. Walker would be in the starting lineup. That leaves Francis Okoro, either Patterson or Walker, and Dante coming off of the bench.

That combination isn’t ideal. Oregon will be forced to field some rotations that have played limited minutes together.

I’ll be at the game and running the gamer for you guys.
