Zooming: Ty Thompson Reflects on Elite 11

July 4, 2020

With games of all types largely suspended, sports fans got a dose of live football this week when the nation's best quarterbacks assembled in Tennessee for the Elite 11, the camp to determine the nation's best prep quarterback.

Although Caleb Williams walked away as the official MVP, many others performed strongly. Among them: Oregon commit Ty Thomspon.

Thompson showed out in every phase, but he told me in a Zoom interview that the was most comfortable in the pocket during the mobility and pro day drills.

247Sports named Thompson its Alpha Dog. And the experts agree he seems to be getting better with each performance.

As a result, the rising senior from Arizona is almost certainly in line for a bump in the rankings. To name a few attributes that stand out to me: he has an absolute cannon for an arm; he excels at throwing on the run; and he has great footwork.

I spoke with him earlier this week about his takeaways from the competition, what it was like to throw with the nation's best, and how the event looked different from years past. We had some audio issues that I tried to smooth over the best I could, so please bear with me.

As always, thanks for your support.
