Oregon Football Recruiting

Zooming: Jabril McNeill

October 25, 2020

Oregon’s 2021 class is No. 3 in the country, and the team is still in the running for some more blue chippers. Yet the Ducks got a real boost last month when they landed outside linebacker Jabril McNeill of Sanderson High in Raleigh (N.C.).

McNeill, a 3-star (0.8733 on the 247Sports Composite) held 18 offers, highlighted by such schools as Auburn, Oklahoma, North Carolina State and Tennessee. Mario Cristobal and his staff offered the country’s No. 33 outside linebacker in March, and they instantly had McNeill’s attention.

We’ve seen the brother-to-brother connection work in Oregon’s favor before, in particular with the Dye and Faoliu siblings. In this case, it worked the other way.

McNeill has a brother, Alim, who plays defensive tackle for the Wolfpack at North Carolina State. Still, the Ducks were able to flex their national brand and reach across the country into a talent-rich state that has brought them such prospects as freshman Jaylen Smith.

I caught up with McNeill on Zoom to learn about what went into his recruitment, what it’s been like to develop relationships with his fellow commits, and what’s next for him in his football journey.
