Players of the Game: Offense

November 21, 2020

It was a weird day for the Oregon offense. They had 2 1 play drives that resulted in touchdowns after Oregon forced an interception. The offense struggled the rest of the 1st half and couldn’t put together a full drive until the 3rd quarter where they had 2 really solid drives that resulted in touchdowns.

It wasn’t a perfect day for the offense, but there were 3 players that really stood out in this one.

Devon Williams

J-Hop predicted this would be the Williams breakout game and he absolutely nailed it. Williams was fantastic for the most part tonight. Now he did have a tough drop on 3rd down but other than that he was great. He had a monstrous 49 yard catch that kept the drive going. Williams is an athletic monster and we finally saw him put it all together in this one. He ended the day with 6 catches for 123 yards and a touchdown. It was a really impressive performance all around for Williams.

Wide receiver hasn’t been a strength for this Oregon team over the past few seasons but it looks like the tide has slowly started to turn for them. It was a quiet game for Johnny Johnson and Jaylon Redd as they combined for 5 catches for 82 yards but it didn’t matter as Williams stepped up in a big way. He’ll look to continue building off this impressive performance.

Tyler Shough

Shough had a pair of passing touchdowns after Oregon forced a turnover but then didn’t play great for the rest of the 1st half. He got things going though in the 2nd half and had some fantastic passes as well as a handful of runs to extend drives. He was far from perfect in this one as he missed some throws and had a handful of questionable decisions as well as a fumble, but there was also a lot of good in there. His decision making on RPO’s have been great and he held onto a couple to complete 2 wide open touchdowns. Shough ended the day 19/30 for 334 yards and 2 touchdowns. He averaged a really solid 11.1 yards per attempt.

Shough used his legs as well and ran the ball 11 times for 31 yards. These numbers are a bit deceiving however as they count the 4 sacks against him. He had a handful of runs that gashed the UCLA defense and kept them honest all game. You see a ton of big time plays for Shough, and if he’s ever able to limit some of the bad plays Shough could become a really great quarterback all around.

Hunter Kampmoyer

It was his 1st game this season and he returned in a big way. He ended the day with 5 catches for 70 yards and a touchdown. He was wide open in the back of the endzone after Shough kept the ball on a RPO. Kampmoyer is also a great blocker and we saw him have a couple of big blocks in both the running and passing game.

Tight end was a 1 man group with DJ Johnson to start the season, but slowly it’s appearing they’re getting back multiple players in this position. Spencer Webb was healthy for this one but Kampmoyer got a ton of playing time along with DJ Johnson. Kampmoyer didn’t get a ton of looks in the passing game last season until he had 2 big time catches on 1 drive in the Rose Bowl earlier this year. We saw him pick up some solid yards after the catch which is great to see for a guy that many believe to be more of a blocking tight end. There’s no reason to doubt that Kampmoyer will be a big part of the gameplan moving forward.

Travis Dye also had a solid day all around finishing the game with 11 touches for 72 yards and a touchown. He played great in the 1st half but wasn’t as big of a factor in the 2nd half.  Johnny Johnson and Jaylon Redd didn’t have a ton of catches but they did have a couple of big time plays that kept a drive moving. Who were your 3 players of the game on offense?
