Nick Pickett declares for the NFL Draft

January 4, 2021

Just two days after the Fiesta Bowl, Oregon has had a second defensive back declare for the 2021 NFL Draft. Senior safety Nick Pickett announced Monday morning that his time in the green and yellow had come to an end.

He shared the news on Twitter.

Pickett was a late 3-star addition to the 2017 class under Willie Taggart and chose to team up with Deommodore Lenoir at the next level after the duo wrecked havoc as teammates at Salesian High School in Los Angeles. Physicality became his calling card in Eugene as the Ducks worked to flip the script from being a “soft” team in years past such as the brutal 2016 season, a year that saw the Ducks finish with a grim 4-8 record.

Pickett had an up and down senior season in Andy Avalos’ defense, with the staff rotating him in with Jordan Happle and Bennett Williams among other safeties. He finished his Oregon career in Glendale against Iowa State tied for the team lead with eight total tackles, six of which were solo.

His final career stats in four seasons at Oregon: 165 total tackles, 101 solo tackles, 12 passes defended, two interceptions, and one forced fumble.

Oregon will now rely on players such as Verone McKinley, Jamal Hill, Bennett Williams, and Jordan Happle as the final line of defense heading into the 2021 season.
