Zooming: Dont'e Thornton

February 14, 2021

Oregon made history with its 2021 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 6 in the country by 247Sports and No. 5 by Rivals. Offensive 4-stars dominated, particularly at wide receiver.

One of the headliners is 6-5 wideout Dont'e Thornton from Baltimore (Md.). Thornton was committed to Penn State for about six months, but a visit to Oregon changed everything.

The 247Sports Composite rated Thompson a high 4-star (0.9721) and the No. 7 wide receiver in the country. When he committed he held 28 offers, including schools like Georgia and Texas.

The process was fluid. At one point, he said, Thornton changed his top three schools every week.

Thornton is really close friends with fellow Marylander Daymon David, whose commitment might have been the last domino to fall in securing Thornton's commitment to the Ducks.

Rumors flew. Was he silent commit? I sat down with him and asked him that question and much more for a refreshingly candid perspective on his journey to Eugene.
