Predictions: ASU

September 22, 2017

It's finally game day. Oregon will head into Sun Devil stadium Saturday night hoping to stay perfect on the season.

Oregon being 3-0 at this point likely isn't near the surprise that ASU is 1-2 at this point. Still they remain a high-powered offense ready to put up points.

For the Ducks, the key will be limiting mistakes and keeping those points off the board.

As we've done the past few weeks now, you'll get a game prediction from me, Corptatty and Allan Johnstone.

Back on Aug. 17 this is what Corpatty and I wrote about this game:

Sept. 23 at Arizona St.

Jhop's Prediction: Oregon wins 60-44

Nothing like a good old fashioned shoot out in the desert. That's exactly what I expect from Oregon and ASU. Both teams are not especially strong defensively. Both might be taking a gamble with the blitz. I think this one will be close into the fourth quarter with the Ducks pulling away from some gashing run plays due to depth at running back and offensive line.

Corpatty's Prediction: Oregon Wins 51-44

Oregon enters this game having won 10 straight against the Sun Devils. In fact, Oregon hasn't lost to Arizona St. since Dirk Koetter's team bested Mike Belotti's squad in 2004. I think the streak gets to 11, but just barely. In what I anticipate to be a shootout, Justin Herbert has another huge game against Arizona St and Oregon wins an overtime thriller with Arrion Springs again intercepting a pass in Tempe in overtime to seal the Oregon win.

Allan's Prediction: Oregon vs. ASU 41-28 Oregon

Both teams are looking for rebound seasons after last year’s seasons didn’t pan out for either program. The Sun Devils were riddled with injuries last season which led to their defense being almost non-existent. While I do see the Sun Devils bouncing back this year, I don’t think it will be enough to beat the Ducks. I expect Freeman to have a big game against the Sun Devils my guess is putting up three touchdowns. As far as the Sun Devils offense their offensive line will be a big weak spot for them as many starters were injured last year. They have talented playmakers but without a solid offensive line that won’t mean much.

Final Thoughts:

What I wrote a month ago doesn't seem to be too far off. I like Oregon winining with 60 points, but I don't think ASU scores 44.

Originally we didn't know what Oregon had defensively and it's clear we know now they can help win games for the Ducks.

Arizona State didn't give me a lot of confidence before the season, they give me even less now.

I think Oregon rolls 60-30.
