Allan's Take

I have no words… I literally haven’t said anything since the end of the third quarter. I know I wrote an article about Oregon going undefeated, and I knew that it was going to be tough, but I would have never guessed that the first loss would be in Tempe, AZ to the Sun Devils.

But when I take a step back and try to be as unbiased as possible it was clear from the start of the game that Oregon did not deserve this win. The Ducks were outplayed on offense and defense throughout the entire night. Here’s some of what went wrong…

PENALTIES

Good night, I thought this was something Oregon left behind after last season, but penalties reared its ugly head again tonight. The Ducks had over 100 yards in penalties tonight that is completely unacceptable. The offensive line play was sloppy, there were so many false starts I lost count, it would have been forgivable, but they couldn’t protect Herbert all night. Other than false starts the next biggest offender was holding.

N’Keal Harry

N’Keal Harry is one of the best wide receivers in the country and if you didn’t know that before tonight, well now you do. He recorded 7 catches for 170 yards and one touchdown. Not only did he get 170 yards but they were always impressive catches on big plays. No one player could contest him when he wanted to make a catch. N’Keal Harry showed up big tonight, end of story.

Justin Herbert

He played a mediocre game. I’m not blaming him for this loss, but his youth did show tonight in the last quarter when he began to overthrow his targets and make questionable calls. Again he didn’t cause this loss, but he didn’t play like we've seen in the past.

In summary

Tonight was a sobering wake up for Oregon football and their fans that this season wasn’t going to be filled with roses and marshmallows. Oregon should be able to bounce back from, but it will be on Taggart to rally the program right back around him.

Now I have to rally myself to start school on Monday, not the kind of send-off I wanted but that's life.
